Dramatically improve your web experience.
• Update your browser
Did you know that your browser is literally your browser? It resides on your computer and is really
an interpreter of web languages. If your browser doesn't know
how to interpret the latest 'languages' you don't get the full
interpretation of the internet. Don't shortchange yourself; always
download browser upgrades.
Goggle's New Chrome browser is the new cutting edge for Windows machines. You can download it here to see if its for you. I sometimes use 4 browsers at a time because some seem better suited for certain tasks to me.
Download
Firefox here.
• Use Google
Use the Google search engine. All engines
are not alike. Google searches are vastly superior to some of
the most widely used search engines. Many of the popular engines
favor paid results, giving you nothing more than a commercial
response. If you want to see what's really out there, make Google
your default search engine. Because of its no-nonsense user interface
and very fast load time, you may also want to make Google your
default homepage.
• Use your
speakers
Turn on the sound. Some sites offer an
interesting audible dimension. You can leave the volume low, but
listening can be an important part of the fully interactive surfing
experience.
• Raise
your resolution
If your monitor is 17" or larger,
the recommended minimum for your screen resolution is 1024 by
768. The table below is displaying your current monitor settings.
How
to change your monitor settings.
Minimize the KopiaWeb window behind
this window so that you can see some part of your desktop.
Right click on the desktop and select- Properties,
then- Settings. There you'll see screen
resolution options. Try different settings.
The web is a mostly visual experience;
see it clearly.
• Do upgrades
Don't be afraid to download upgrades of
things like Flash, Real Player, etc. Most of these things are
free, and when your computer asks you if you would like to download
new versions it is usually because the program has been improved.
These companies are creating the web environment and the tools
to explore it. Remember that the cyber world is not static; it
is ever evolving and you will need to grow with it.
It is easy to find a comfort zone in
something as vast as cyber space, but don't. Much of what's happening
is simplification, and it will only be unfamiliar to you the first
time. Be brave, explore, enjoy.
